The Strategy’s goal is to select high priority projects to achieve strategic objectives of the city development for the period until 2030. For the City Administration, it is the roadmap and itemized list of events to include in municipal programs and for adjusting territorial planning documents. For the people, it means resolving acute problem of urban development and preservation of the city’s identity, creating a coherent system of public spaces having a holistic architectural image; the business community will enjoy a more focused tourist product, better service and higher average spending.
Consortium members visited Vologda recently and met with Sergei Voropanov, Mayor, Denis Pozdnyakov, Chief Architect, and Elena Kukushkina, Chair of the Committee for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Vologda Region. They discussed the territory development priorities and key objectives of the future Strategy.
They inspected pedestrian streets, landscaped and improved spaces, places of attraction, implemented restoration projects jointly with Ivan Krutikov, Lead Architect at ANO Vologda Urban Environment Laboratory.
The orientation visit was wrapped up with a lecture and discussion “What is the potential of city development?”. Its participants included inter-industry experts and activists from among Vologda’s residents.
Based on the results of the visit, the Consortium received all materials required for the commencement of development of the Spatial Development Strategy that will serve as grounds for the future urban development analysis.
