Sustainable development of the cities of the Far North and the Far East requires adaptation of common approaches to special natural and socio-economic conditions, taking into account regional peculiarities in the preparation and implementation of master plans. Yakutsk is one of the fastest growing cities in the Far East, is among the most extreme cities in the world in terms of natural and climatic conditions.

In 2022, the All-Russian competition for the development of a master plan of Yakutsk was held. The first place in it was taken by a Consortium led by the "Institute of the General Plan of Moscow". The operator of the competition was the Agency for Strategic Development "CENTER".

The basis of the terms of reference for the participants of the competition for the development of the master plan of the city was the research "Comprehensive assessment of the prerequisites for urban development of the city district "city of Yakutsk".

The master plan of Yakutsk has already identified key projects and some of them are currently being implemented. On the territory of the Republic, not only cities, but also villages are transformed, these are spaces in which a unique identity is revealed, which tells about the culture and history of the area.

Yakutsk has prospects of becoming the best city to live in the Arctic zone by its 400th anniversary. The master plan for the development of the regional center outlines tasks, the implementation of which will make it attractive for both residents and investors.
