“At the end of the application campaign, a list of finalists was compiled, which, in high competition, showed professionalism and readiness to work comprehensively to draft such master plans for Borodino, Nazarovo and Sharypovo that would make it possible to achieve an additional effect from their integrated development. Making a shortlist of such teams is an important intermediate result that gives confidence in further success," said Tatyana Zhuravlyova, CEO of the Andrey Melnichenko Foundation.

During the jury meeting, the head of the city of Nazarovo, Vladimir Saar, paid special attention to the need to consider the problem of retaining young people when creating master plans: “We support our industrial colleges, they train specialists, but, unfortunately, almost half of them leave for other territories. Therefore, of course, the task is to provide jobs so that young people want to stay in the city."

According to the head of the city of Sharypovo, Vadim Khokhlov, the master plans should benefit local budgets: “The master plan will serve as the basis for attracting funding from all sources and will enable us to participate both in federal and in regional programs.”

And the head of the city of Borodino, Alexander Veretennikov, emphasized the importance of diversifying the economy: “I would like to get a master plan covering at least three areas that would help the city create business. It would give Borodino extra opportunities for growth.”

Ksenia Shilkova, the head of the master planning department at IND, an architecture studio from Moscow, spoke about participation in the project: “The competition is a chance to offer truly innovative solutions, and to expand the internal approaches of the bureau to design and development of territories. For cities, the competition is a way to discover different approaches to their future and choose the best strategy by combining the most successful solutions. Variability and synthesis of proposals is the main advantage of competition practice."

The representative of another finalist, director of the Krasnoyarsk studio RED BIZNES Yulia Kuznetsova, believes that the master plans will help “to form a list of social and infrastructure facilities needed for comfortable living and development of the territory; to determine a strategy for improving the urban environment, to expand opportunities and improve the quality of the population’s education, to create conditions for attracting and retaining young specialists; to promote the tourist brand of the territory, and to create prerequisites for attracting tourist flows and business development."

Anastasia Slesareva, director of PM FOSTER LLC from Krasnoyarsk, believes that when working on the master plan, knowledge of the territory will play a key role: “We all grew up in the cities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Two of our urban planners spent their childhood in Borodino and to this day continue to come there to visit their relatives. Our relatives work at the coal mine. Our team understands the problems of these cities and the life there. We are concerned about their future and consider it a unique case when a master plan can be handled by professionals who have known the city for decades."

The operator of the Competition is the Agency for Strategic Development CENTER. Sergei Georgievskii, co-founder of the Agencyspoke about the work that was done to make the task easier for the participants: “Since July, the Agency CENTER has been engaged in a Comprehensive assessment of the current development level of Borodino, Nazarovo and Sharypovo. Our job was to prepare a powerful analytical platform so that the contestants could build on this foundation to make more accurate, balanced decisions that correspond to the real living conditions of the competition territories, and not waste time collecting and analyzing information, but immediately proceed to specific developments and solutions that will become key in the socio-economic and spatial models of these cities."

In mid-October, the finalists will visit the competition cities, where for several days they will study the design area, meet with authorities, and take part in collective and individual consultations with experts.
The total prize fund for the Competition is 27,000,000 rubles. The winners will be determined in January 2025.
